In 1945 W.B. "Tommy" Humphreys returned to Jackson, MS after four years of serving his country. Tommy arrived home to a new wife and no source of income, but had no interest in
taking on the family business of farming. Soon after, a local company JB Stokes, was looking for a worker. They had three eager men show up to claim the job. An ultimatum was
handed down; "All of you will be on the payroll for one week and the best worker gets the job." As my Grandmother told me “And knowing your grandfather, you know who won the job of course." Within a few years
Tommy became a leader within the company and moved to Mobile, AL to manage a regional branch.

Tommy had the opportunity to purchase the branch in 1952. He was eager to build his own business and accepted the challenge. With his new company and direction, they offered carpet,
fabric, and terrazzo tile and went by the name "Mobile Carpet & Draperies." Like any business, there were challenges; such as a fire in Dec of 1978 that swept the store and left only
the front wall. Tommy was a passionate and charming man and built a business that would endure the test of time.

Fast forward to 2005 and a second chapter is in progress with Tommy's daughter Virginia “Ginny” and her husband Mickey. They have developed a strong local market with
Mobile Carpet & Draperies and are serving many builders and home owners along the Gulf Coast. At that time, the evolution of the Internet introduced the opportunity to
provide flooring products on a more extensive scale, and so began SouthCypress.com.

Located in Birmingham, AL, and a third-generation family business, South Cypress is
built with a culture of people that hold the same passion as Tommy and is lead by 2 distinctive pursuits: 1) intense focus on a unique customer experience - 2) provide a
place for employees to grow personally and professionally. We hope that we have the opportunity to share our passion with you and that your day is better because you allowed
us to be a part of it.
