Oakland New Kitchen Project
Zuzana and Isao are both designers, so when they decided to create a rental unit on the bottom floor of their home, they had no problem completing the project themselves. Check out how they created a sleek new kitchen in the space.
Since this was a new construction, they essentially created the kitchen from scratch. Here you can see what the space looked like before the renovation.
Zuzana and Isao wanted to design a kitchen that was elegant, modern, and practical. They also wanted to make sure that the design was versatile enough for future tenants. The cabinets shown are Ikea Rockhammer cabinets topped with a new granite countertop.
For the backsplash, Zuzana and Isao chose to use Storka's Essence line of glass subway tile. They creatively integrated both of the 3" x 12" and 2" x 6" sizes of the Frost and Calcite colors. The result is a totally custom backsplash that really demonstrates their design expertise! They say that it was refreshing to use tile from the same manufacturer because they didn’t need to worry about differences in quality or size.
Zuzana and Isao made sure to make design choices that would work with the materials and colors in the rest of the room. The entire kitchen took about 3 months to complete, and the backsplash portion took about 3 days.
