Daniel's Modern Kitchen Update
Posted On November 18th, 2015
Daniel’s kitchen was in dire need of a facelift, even though it had been updated once before. The counters were bland and the cabinets made the room feel dark and crowded.
Wanting something that would lighten the room, Daniel and his wife chose a look inspired from Pinterest and HGTV — white kitchens with grey backsplashes.
After replacing the countertop and updating the cabinets, they chose 5th Avenue 3″ x 6″ Smoke Glossy from South Cypress.
Overall, the project took two months to complete. The tile backsplash took three days total — one day to glue the tile on the wall, a half day to grout, and another half day for clean-up and touch-ups. Daniel painted the cabinets using Rust-Oleum’s Cabinet Transformations Kit in Pure White which really transforms the kitchen.
Some advice from Daniel:
Take your time! Also, if your countertops are “busy,” don’t also plan on a busy backsplash. We’re glad we used solid tiles for the backsplash because the granite has so many different colors. If you install quartz or solid surface that looks more uniform, you can be liberal with the backsplash.
