After owning her house in Orange Park, Florida, for 11 years, the time had come for Lisa to make a change to her kitchen. Her family had grown into 4 adults, and in spite of the open layout, the space had become crowded and left them bumping into each other. This coupled with the lack of storage space meant that a renovation was overdue.
The previous cabinetry was in disrepair
Since they were the original owners of this home, the kitchen had never been redone. This meant that some of the construction-grade material used for the house was starting to come apart. The kitchen cabinetry was actually coming off of the walls!
Kitchen before renovation
When designing the new space, Lisa decided that she wanted a clean look, and she also wanted the new space to better facilitate flow of conversation between the kitchen and the living room. Lisa looked through cabinetry inspiration books, online, and at major chain hardware stores’ kitchens to get inspiration.
A contractor was brought in to install the cabinetry.
Lisa decided to completely revamp the kitchen by replacing the cabinetry, flooring, countertop, and sink. She also chose to add a backsplash and a sleek oven hood. A contractor was hired for the cabinetry, and he subcontracted the granite and sink installation. She then hired a second contractor for the flooring and backsplash.
Cabinets and countertop installed.
Lisa got away from the original light colored cabinets and chose dark Chiswick Glazed Mahogany cabinets. These cabinets provide a modern look that contrasts well with the light granite she chose for the countertops. The dark color also doesn’t show dirt or smudges like lighter tones can.
The new cabinets give Lisa much more storage space
The large new cabinets also give Lisa the additional storage space that she and her family needed.
Storka Essence 3 x 12 Rain
When designing the space, Lisa wanted to use colors that felt warm–not sterile. She listened to input from her friends for advice on how to make the colors work together. For the backsplash, Lisa chose Storka Essence 3 x 12 Rain. This color really matches well with the new granite countertop and light floor.
The finished kitchen
The finished kitchen looks phenomenal with the new color scheme! Lisa used Benjamin Moore Ashley Gray on the walls to match both the new kitchen design and the existing paint throughout the rest of the house. These changes really take the room from a cookie cutter construction design to a custom and elegant space to be proud of. Our Subway Tile Theme Page
